Did you know that here in New Zealand, not only do we have native gulls, but we have one of the most critically endangered endemic gulls. You wouldn't know it when they're mugging you for your chippies, but it's true.
After the Christchurch quakes, a massive rubble pit opened up right in the CBD - and, by the time the owners got back to it, these endangered gulls had taken it as their own for breeding grounds. Legally protected, much to the dismay of council and large corporations, this high value CBD property must stay a big stinky rubble pit to support our beautiful, crime passioned birds.
Way to go birds, stick it to the man.
